I took this photo on some rail tracks in Vienna near the Danube.Time
The best time for taking photos of these wild living rabbits is early morning. Then you have the best light and this urban area isn't very crowded and the rabbits use this time for gathering food.Lighting
At this spot and in general a soft light is contributing to get a more dreamy effect in your pictures and it's great to improve the look of the textures like in the rabbit's fur. Additionally with less light you can include the flares of the traffic lights like here in the bokeh.Equipment
I've used a Canon 5d Mk iii and a Canon 400/2.8 L USM ii together with a bean bag here.Inspiration
Urban wild life is getting more important every day and it's very interesting to watch these rabbits living in this habitat near the rail tracks. Nature uses every possible spot to survive. Seeing the rabbits there I wanted to get one of them jumping across the tracks.Editing
Not much as the nature photography competitions I've submit my photos to as well are very restrictive in terms of post processing I don't do retouching or composites. What I do is tonal correction, white balance correction, denoising, sharpening and work on contrast and saturation. In my camera bag
Canon 5d Mkiii, Canon 16-35/4 L IS, Canon 50/1.4, Canon 135/2 L, Canon 180/3.5 L macro, Canon 400/2.8 L IS USM, bean bag, Sirui and Berlebach tripods, reflectors and diffusors, gradient filters, polarization filterFeedback
In nature photography - especially when doing wild life shots - you need patience, but you need to be on guard to use situations like this for a photo. Practice using your tele lenses in fast action situations. Doing a lot of water ski slalom photos in the past helped a lot to take this photo and don't miss the opportunity. Practicing helps to improve your technical skills, but it's good to also reflect your work frequently. There's always room for improvement and watching other photographers' work helps a lot too - not to copy their work, but to ask yourself what you like in their images and find a way to achieve that or something similar. Think about special situations you want to capture like here the rabbit crossing the tracks. Experiment with different POVs or try to get special light situations. There are so many possibilities to shoot something special.
