In October 2014, I took a month-long trip to Europe, and the first two weeks were spent in Greece. The first week was spent on Santorini with a photography tour group, and the second week I struck out on my own, starting with this island, Paros, on which I spent two nights. This shot of one of the windmills in Parikia, against the sunset and overlooking the harbor, was taken on the second evening, and is one of those shots that I look back on with a sense of satisfaction that's all the sweeter for knowing I made it happen. I chased the idea of going to Greece until it came to fruition, and while I had the reassurance of instruction during my first week, my second was purely on my own. When I got to Paros, I acted on an impulse and let an old man take me around the island on his moped, and later I explored on my own. That evening I raced the sun along the island's coastline so I could reach the perfect spot before it went down, and this was my reward.
