I've been coming to the sierra since I was very young. Not until this last year did I know this location existed. What a spectatular location! I was blown away once I stepped out of the car and started to explore the area. Wasn't till a hiker tipped me off to take a short hike. Didn't have all the gear and a lot of time but decided to go anyway and extremely glad I did. Can't wait to go back and explore more in depth.

Location
This shot was taken overlooking Mack Lake on rock creek trail in the Sierra Nevada's.Time
This was my first time visiting this area and started the hike unprepared. I headed up the trail head and noticed the storm approaching. I would of liked to wait for the sunset but could only last so long before having to turn around before getting stuck in the storm with no rain gear. This shot was about a hour before sunset.Lighting
Lighting was nice due to the sun starting to go down behind me illuminating the clouds ahead for a more dramatic shot.Equipment
The gear on this quick trip in was a canon 5D MarkIII, induro CT313 carbon fiber tripod with a induro BHD3 ballhead and a Tiffen polarized filter.Inspiration
I have traveled to the Sierra since I was a kid, not really sure how I never heard of this area, luckily while up shooting McGee Creek a women who approached me asking if I do family portrait informed me of rock creek area. Absolutely blown away with the pure beauty of the area. The massive mountain range shooting out above the lake with the creek running in. One of my favorite areas to visit when visiting the Sierra now.Editing
Yes. I edited this shot in lightroom. Added a little color and sharpness. In my camera bag
My normal carry around bag consist of my Canon 5D MarkIII, 24-105 L series lens, 70-200 L series lens, tiffen polarizer, ND grad filters, dlc wireless shutter release, headlamp and gloves (when it gets dark and cold)Feedback
Only advice I'd give is just get out and shoot! Enjoy yourself! Shoot at the lowest ISO you can, highly recommend investing in a good tripod (suffered for years with many lower end tripods before taking the plunge and buying a good one), also always have a remote shutter release. One tip if you forget it and don't want any camera shake set up your timer delay. That way you can snap the shot, step away and let the timer shoot insuring no camera shake. Also a must is a polarizer!!!! Try to capture the most you can in camera so you don't have to worry about it later in post. Happy shooting!
