Location
I took this photo near Elbe, Washington, at a Civil War Reenactment site.Time
I believe it was late afternoon.Lighting
No. Midday outside.Equipment
Sony Nex-6 with a 16-50mm lens, handheld.Inspiration
The man was an actor in a really dynamic Civil War Reenactment in Elbe Washington. He was in full costume and had ridden on a small steam train minutes before, where he'd been leading men up the aisles, fighting off robbers, etc. Very dramatic. He didn't have on makeup. The hair and beard were all natural. I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I actually stopped him and asked him to give me a mean look real quick. This is what I got.Editing
It was taken in color and I converted it to black and white. I kicked up the contrast a bit and I believe that's it.In my camera bag
I carry two Sony cameras - an a6000 and a Nex-6. My lenses are a 16-50mm, 14mm, 55-210mm and fish eye. I always have a few extra memory cards and batteries along with cleaning tools.Feedback
I enjoy "event" photos where there are lots of people in interesting clothing walking around. Civil War Re-enactments are awesome, but for something like this shot, you have to be willing to approach the actors and get somewhat involved. The long shots are interesting, but the up close role playing they do is so impressive.
