Location
This photo was taken by the River Wey in Ripley (near Woking, Surrey, UK) co-ordinates (facing south west) 51.305558, -0.511706Time
I left my office early (about 15:30) on 2nd January 2015 and was heading home. My route home takes me over a couple of humpback bridges as the road crosses the River Wey. As I drove over one of the bridges I noticed a warm yellow/orange setting sun reflecting off of the river. I pulled in at the next opportunity and walked back to capture the beautiful light and fantastic cloud shapes.Lighting
Whilst taking in the view I noticed the clouds had formed a bird like shape above the setting sun.Equipment
I used my Canon 7d with a Sigma 18-35mm lens (setting was 18mm, f7.1). The shots (3 exposure bracketed) were handheld.Inspiration
I pass this location twice a day and knew it was a nice view but the early Winter setting sun tied in perfectly with my early car journey home. Just an opportunistic photo!Editing
I did bracket 3 exposures as the setting sun was still very bright and the river banks would have been too dark without a little HDR tweaking! In my camera bag
I don't usually take too much equipment with me, just the 7d with either the Sigma 18-35mm or the Canon 70-200mm IS F4 LFeedback
It's all about timing (setting sun) and luck (cloud formation)! The Sigma 18-35mm does not have image stabilisation and I didn't have a tripod with me at the time so I had to kneel down to keep stable whilst firing off the shots.
