I 'charged' the luminous dial with a UV flashlight then took a 4 second time exposure in a darkened room. The "Pixel Bender" plugin for PS CS4 & 5 is available free from Adobe. The "droste" script for that plugin is also available on the same site. Works only with CS4 and CS5.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took the basis for this image (a wrist watch) at my desk in a darkened room.

Time

Nice thing about indoor photography, you can control the lighting so effectively!

Lighting

The luminous dial of the watch will glow brightly only for a short time after exposure to ultra violet light, so everything must be setup and ready for capture. I used a small UV flashlight to activate the dial, then opened the shutter for a time exposure.

Equipment

The camera was mounted on a tripod to eliminate motion blur during a time exposure.

Inspiration

An online photography article described using a special Photoshop plugin that is available from the Adobe website. This plugin will create a smooth spiral from any circular image. The plugin is named for a well known artist and the developer of this plugin, thus called "Escher-Droste". The plugin is compatible only with Photoshop versions CS4 and CS5 and may be freely downloaded.

Editing

There was little post processing required, mostly just a quick levels adjust and cropping.

In my camera bag

I usually carry at least two lenses and various filters.

Feedback

I love to experiment and try new effects, especially in Adobe Photoshop. A familiarity with the capabilities of your image processor is essential for producing a well finished image!
