Location
This photo was taken at our local zoo. The Fort Worth Zoo. I take photos purely for the pleasure of it.Time
This was taken in the afternoon around 3:30 pm. Not the best time, but I was there.Lighting
This was obviously not the best lighting, but I did what I could. Light was pretty harsh so I underexposed to not blow the highlights.Equipment
My camera of choice at the time was my Canon EOS 7D Mark II attached was Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM. Hand held, no tripod or flash.Inspiration
Inspiration comes easy when visiting the zoo. Gorillas and elephants are my favorites there. I was happy to capture the baby playing around and biting momma and her just sitting and taking it. Not much different than humans.Editing
As I stated earlier about the harsh light and underexposing, there was quite a bit of processing. This is a reedit of an earlier posted photo. After learning LR a little better, I was able to improve on processing. Mostly with exposure, highlights and shadows. In my camera bag
I tend to travel and pack light. So my favorite camera these days in my Canon EOS R. I also have not upgraded to any RF lenses yet, but maybe in the future. Lens that I do carry are my Canon EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM and Canon EF 7-200mm f2.8L IS III USM. I do carry an on camera flash and an off camera flash, just in case. Extra batteries and memory cards are a must in camera bag.Feedback
You know as well as I do that time of day is important for reasons of better light. Early in the morning when the zoo opens or as late as possible before the zoo closes are the better times. When the choice is out of your hands then make sure you adjust properly. I tend to shoot for the highlights to not blow them out and then bring up the shadows in LR. Happy shooting and enjoy.
