This photo was taken at my home in Saginaw, TX. on my back yard patio. Photography is a personal hobby of mine and with every shoot I learn more and more.Time
This day was probably one of those boring days with nothing planned, especially for shooting. Just recently purchased a shoot through umbrella and was eager to test it out. It took several tries with different light positions and power settings before I was pleased.Lighting
Not too much special about the lighting. That was natural light behind me and a shoot through umbrella placed above and camera right shot with a Flashpoint Xplor 600 which was still new to me. Still learning all about off camera lighting and loving it.Equipment
My camera of choice is my Canon 5D MK IV, Lens is Canon Macro EF100mm 2.8L IS USM, Velbon S-4000 tripod, Flashpoing Xplor 600 and a Promaster 60" soft light umbrella.Inspiration
This was a forced inspiration on my part. Between being bored at home and anxious to try out my new lighting equipment, it didn't take long before I was out in the back yard doing what I love to do.Editing
Yes I do post processing and learning every time I edit a photo. I shoot all my images in raw format to have as much info to work with. Most of my editing is done in Light Room and some I will carry over to Photoshop. Portrait editing for me is still a challenge, especially skin and faces. Dodge and burn is what I am into now for portraits. In my camera bag
What I always carry with me is my camera (Canon 5D MK IV ), Canon 24-105mm lens, Canon 100mm lens, at least one or two Canon speed lights, and of course plenty of spare batteries.Feedback
I would say that for a shot like this is to try to pick a good setting even better than I chose. Be picky about the background. Don't get lazy about that as I have in many cases. Trying to rid myself of that bad habit. You can capture a lot of great shots with just natural light, but when you can control the light with equipment go for it. If you use off camera flash set it in most cases above and either to the left or right of subject to capture a nice catchlight in the eyes with power adjusted to properly light subject. Have fun with your photo sessions and don't be afraid to try some new things as this is how you will improve your skills. As I have said before, I am in no way a pro and photography is my passion. I feel I have come a long way, but a long way is still ahead of me. Happy shooting.
