Location
I shot this in the magnificent area of Glen Coe in the Scottish highlands. While driving around with my wife and dog looking for places to shoot, we saw a place to park the car and went for a wander. The bridge leads off to a little camping hut owned by the Scottish Mountaineering Club called lagangarbh hut. It sits just beneath the imposing mountain Buachaille Etive Mòr that you can see on the right hand side of the image.Time
It was mid afternoon on a beautiful day in late augustLighting
The sun was high in the sky but obscured by some big fluffy clouds behind where I wanted to shoot, so it created a nice neutral light making exposure nice and simpleEquipment
I took the images that I eventually blended together for this shot with my old Canon eos 1100d and the standard 18-55 kit lens.Inspiration
Quite simply the inspiration for this image was Scotland itself. I was born in England but many generations of my family hail from this incredible place. I often feel like my blood is calling me back there. Everywhere you look in the highlands begs to be photographed.Editing
I always shoot RAW as it gives you so much more scope for editing. With the six shots that make up this image, I firstly imported them into lightroom, brought down the highlights and did a little tweaking. then moved them into photoshop to merge then together, then back to lightroom where I altered the perspective a little and removed some lens distortion to get the leading lines as straight as possible. Lastly I altered the tone to give it the hyper real almost cartoon like appearance I wanted to achieve. In my camera bag
My main camera bag is a Lowepro SlingShot 102 AW. I'm now mostly shooting with a Canon 5D classic, an excellent and cheap way to move over to full frame for anyone wanting to upgrade their camera body on a budget, as its a fantastic camera that you can pick up second hand for the same sort of cost as a new entry level dslr. Depending on my intention I will pack different lenses but my constant companion is a Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8, I've found it to be a great multi purpose shooter. Then a cheap yongnuo flash, some spare battery's, some filters and a lens cloth.Feedback
I don't always shoot landscapes, but when I do I like to portray the location honestly but at the same time bringing out how the place makes me feel. You should always try to take inspiration from the things or people that you love, if it is a place then keep going back and always be shooting, take the pictures and create the best images you can, figure out what you like about them and try to elaborate upon it for the next time.
