At about 6pm or so just before sunset to get the sun over her shoulder.Lighting
Yes used a B1 off camera flash to get light on her because I knew the sun behind her would cast shadows and make her features very dark.Equipment
B1 flash, Nikon D750, Nikon 50mm f1.4, remote trigger and light meterInspiration
I wanted something bright and fun. The flowers were so colorful and we were in a park just in a small patch of flowers but they matched her dress so well. I needed to get low to keep the benches and man made park stuff out of the photo so it would look like she is in a field and just enjoying a wonderful spring day. Her and her mom had such great ideas for this senior photo shoot that collaboration was easy and organic. Which in turn makes the photos feel organic.Editing
Yes some color adjusting in basic adjustments in Lightroom. Did some light frequency separation editing in Photoshop. In my camera bag
Nikon d750, Nikon 50mm f1.4, Nikon 14-24mm f2.8, Sigma 120-400mm f5.6, remote triggers, batteries memory cards, cleaning kit, tripod, various ND and other filters, candy, pistachios, flashlights, coins (to tighten tripod camera mount) and my phone. All packed into a Lowpro back pack.Feedback
Yes watch your lighting on the front of the subject. With such intense light coming from behind its challenging to get the proper lighting on her front. I had to abandon the light meter and just take a few sample shots and adjust the flash from there. Since the sun was going down it made it more urgent to get the exposure right. Last but not least have fun!
