Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in a small cove along Lake Ontario N.Y. i'm a self taught photographer and i enjoy sharing what treasures i find to shoot every photo is a one in a life time shot and should be enjoyed by others and not just me :)

Time

This was around noon but it was a cold and slightly overcast day i was just cursing around with my husband like we like to do to see what kind of pictures we can get and we found this boat tied up and almost sunk because of the ice.

Lighting

This was a slightly overcast day which to me makes a better picture it gives a more natural look to the subject instead of a bright or sharp look to what your shooting, the sun had come out for a few minutes after i took this shot but brought out dark shadows around the boat which took away some of the feel of sinking i was looking for.

Equipment

I used a canon 20D with a 24-85MM lens i took this shot free handed with no tripod.

Inspiration

I was traveling around with my husband along Lake Ontario N.Y. like we always do to get the best shots we can find we usually like to get shots of the migrating birds but we happen to come across this poor half sunken boat it made me wonder why someone would just abandon such a nice looking boat in such an out of the way spot i wanted to get the shot of this poor boat to remind me of how wasteful some people can be and how lucky i am to be able to find this great shot.

Editing

The only processing i did was sharpen and enhance the color a little i wanted the boat to tell the rest of the story.

In my camera bag

At the time i took this shot i had a Canon EOS 20D with a 24-84MM zoom lens and a 100-400MM lens i have since upgraded to a Canon EOS 70D with a 18-135MM lens and a 150-600MM zoom lens

Feedback

I think my advice would be never just set you sites on one specific thing be ready to catch something unusual when the opportunity happens, go out and just enjoy what you see don't worry if it's the greatest shot around if you feel good about it then go for it every shot is a one in a life time shot like this one i didn't plan on seeing this one it just happened let life happen one shot at a time.
