Location
I was taking a road trip around New Zealand's South Island and decided to drive up to Milford Sound. I was lucky in that the sea was calm and the light was perfect. I felt it was very peaceful. Within ten minutes of taking the shot the wind started to blow and the skies darkened.Time
It was about midday when I reached the Sound and I was entranced by the calm beauty of the landscape and the reflection in the water.Lighting
The lighting was totally natural with no additional light source or filters.Equipment
My camera was a Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 18-105mm lens, hand-held with ISO 200. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was amazed by the clean air and superb quality of the light together with the reflection on the calm water.Editing
The only post-processing necessary was to slightly sharpen the raw file since such files tend to be quite soft straight from the camera. In my camera bag
I normally try to travel light with only my Nikon camera and an extra lens plus a spare battery.Feedback
My advice would be just to keep your eyes open and to be open-minded. On this occasion I was lucky to be at my destination at the time when the light was perfect and the wind had not yet caused ripples on the water. To my mind, this produced a nice calming scene. A few minutes later, when the wind arrived, the scene had lost it's serenity.
