The more I look at this picture the more it captivates me. The blue tone of the mountains and the lake enhance the colour of the houses and buildings. It looks so fresh yet homely and happy. The tin roof in the front is a bit distracting but yet it is still at masterpiece. Congratulations!!!

I agree about the tin roof, total distraction and i remember thinking that at the time as well but not having anyway around it.

Location
This photo is taken atop Halgrimskirkja Church in downtown Reykjavik, Iceland in November 2013.Time
I had been walking around since about 6 a.m. and the sun began to rise very slowly around 9-10 a.m.Lighting
Just natural low light of a cold winter morning in the North.Equipment
This is shot with a Nikon D800 and a 35mm prime lens on my Miller tripod. I shot this HDR with ND.09 at f/22 so I could make each shot a long exposure from 10 seconds down to 3 seconds between the 5 shots. I used my wireless shutter release to minimise camera movement.Inspiration
I am simply inspired by Iceland full stop, especially in the winter with the blue light and blue water. I wanted to capture a moment that looked like what it felt like to be there at the time, which is to say, like a pop up story book. I feel like I can reach out and touch the city, walk amongst it like a giant in a dream world. Edinburgh in Scotland is also a place I have been that lends itself to this effect.Editing
I combined 5 underexposed shots in Photomatix Essentials and then increased the sharpness, contrast, and clarity in Lightroom to really make everything pop out at the viewer. I increased the colour and changed the levels of the shadows and highlights to achieve the desired exposure. I really like the effect you get from blending long exposures. In my camera bag
Nikon D800, 14mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 28-300mm, ND .09, Polariser, wireless shutter release, Miller tripod.Feedback
I would say a remote shutter is a must for the best, if not the most convenient way of shooting HDR to avoid unnecessary camera movement. A prime lens is ideal because that will also minimise movement. The only other thing I can think of is go on adventures to find places that inspire you so you can take photos that make you smile and want to go back out for more when you look at them. I can't wait to go back to Iceland.
