Wonderful shot! The flag really draws me in. Actually...the entire image is very strong! The number 54 really draws me and I think of ladder 54! The water spray is amazing, the clouds of smoke, the color! A fantastic photo journalistic shot! Well done!!!

Wonderful action shot, and the American flag really anchors the image nicely. Bravo ArtGirl.

Location
Industrial warehouse fire, in Northern Illinois.Time
Between 1pm and 9 pm.Lighting
Incredibly humid and sweltering day. Acrid light and heat, ugh! - The kind of light that forces you to squint and dries out your eyes - and no sunglasses!Equipment
Nikon D300, with 18-200 telephoto lens, handheld.Inspiration
I had just picked up my camera from a repair. I was on my way home when I noticed a dark black spire of smoke on the horizon. As I began to make my way to the area, I heard sirens, many many sirens. The smoke was absolutely black and billowing. As I neared the scene, it smelled toxic. Then there were explosions. I pretended to be a journalist, which enabled me to get closer to the action. After 2 hours of shooting, I knew I had at least a couple of great images. Covered in gray ash, I left the scene, as if I do this all the time!Editing
I did absolutely nothing. All frames were shot in RAW.In my camera bag
Nikon D300, zoom telephoto, wide angle, Really Right Stuff tripod, filters, and always an LED light.Feedback
