Location
On a recent trip in early December to New Orleans, LA, we visited the French Quarter and found ourselves perusing the various vendors at the French Market along the Mississippi River.Time
This photograph was taken at about 1:40 p.m. on a cool sunny afternoon. The market was in an open air pavilion with various vendors throughout.Lighting
While it was sunny outside, the roof on the pavilion did not give access to direct light. No flash was required though as there was sufficient natural lighting needed for this shot.Equipment
This picture was taken with my Nikon D7200 camera body and my Tamron 18-400mm zoom lens mounted and extended to 115mm. The shutter speed I used was set at 1/320 sec, with an aperture of f5 and of ISO of 1400.Inspiration
While we were talking to this young lady wearing her colorful Covid required mask about the merchandise she was selling, the vibrancy of her eyes through her eyeglasses captured my attention. With the mask covered her other facial features, it enhanced her eyes even more so. I immediately asked her if she minded if I could take her picture. After a slight hesitation, she said “go for it”, which I did.Editing
Some post processing was required. The photo was cropped to eliminate some minor distractions and I needed to clear up some spurious glare and reflections in her eyeglasses. I also removed some very slight skin blemishes. I texturized the background to draw more attention to her face and added a slight bit of dodging to her hair to add some highlights. In my camera bag
In my bag I normally have my Nikon D7200 camera body and the 18-55mm and 55-300mm Nikon kit lenses along with my Tamron 18-400mm zoom lens, extra storage media, batteries, table top tripod and a remote shutter release.Feedback
Never miss an opportunity to be inspired by what you see. Don’t be afraid to ask someone for permission to take their photo. The worst they can say is say no and always be polite. You can even thank them and pay them the compliment as to why you wanted to take their picture. Don’t be afraid to try different angles and lighting situations. And above all have fun with your passion.
