You have a great portrait! I would gladly choose him as the winner of my challenge, if not for my task: "A portrait that was not awarded and underestimated."

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a local Comic-Con festival in Dover, DE in mid-August. We enjoy going to this festival because there are so many fascinating people dressed up in various costumes who are more than happy to have their pictures taken.

Time

This photo was taken in the late morning on a bright sunny day which served to enhance the makeup and colors of the costumes.

Lighting

There was abounding sunlight without a cloud in the sky. Knowing that the angle of the lighting would determine the highlights and shadow effects, I chose the angle that enhanced her hair coloring and facial makeup, which accentuated her natural beauty while the shadows framed her face. I used a great depth of field to blur out the background and draw more attention to her face.

Equipment

The equipment I used for this photo was my Nikon D7200 camera with a Tamron 18-400mm. No filtration, tripod or flash was used, just handheld with a 1/800 second exposure at f5.6 and ISO 720.

Inspiration

The many and varied costumes at this Comic-Con event gives me the opportunity to be able to take street photos and portraits of willing participants. The makeup and her beautiful smile made this photo a must one to take.

Editing

The only post-processing that I needed to do with this photo was to crop out some distracting background.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Nikon D7200 camera and my Nikon 18-55mm lens, my Nikon 55-300mm lens, my Tamron 18-400mm lens, a remote release and extra storage cards and battery.

Feedback

My feedback is usually to not be afraid to take as many pictures and angles and light situations as possible because your rewards can be varied and many. Never be afraid to experiment with all of these.
