The castle

Paphos castle is located in Kato Paphos at the harbour. It was originally built as a Byzantine fort to protect the harbour and rebuilt by the Lusignans in the thirteenth century after being destroyed in the earthquake of 1222. Throughout the ages it has seen many uses. It has served as a fortress, a prison and even a warehouse for salt during the British occupation of the island. The Castle is listed in the UNESCO list of world heritage sites.
This was the first time I visited the place for a photograph. The light at was a bit flat so I guess I will have to visit again this place at dawn for another shoot. I arrived there with my wife half an hour before sunset and immediately took my tripod , camera and filters and took my position at the edge of the rocks , looking at the castle with the setting sun BEHIND me. Little I knew that this was a worldwide famous place to watch the setting sun , so many people , tourists and locals , started to gather near the castle and started taking photos. the sunset was indeed spectacular but my objective was the castle so I kept shooting it. After the sun went down , my wife , who was up and taking sunset photos , told me that everyone was murmuring about the *&*&*&* idiot that was in their frame , shooting in the wrong direction :)) so she pretended that she did not knew me when I was coming up the rocks to meet her !!:)
I will revisit the place to try a sunrise capture , this time shooting in the right direction :)

For the technically minded .....
Nikon D800 , Nikkor 14 24mm f-2.8 - Exposure 1.5 sec; f-14; ISO 100 , A single NEF capture imported in camera raw , lowered the highlights , lifted the shadows and passed over to PS. a dodge-burn layer was used to selectively add a vignette , luminosity masks were used to select the highlights to brighten the water , a mild orton effect was also added.
