Lake Sabrina at twilight
My initial plan was to return to Lake Sabrina by sunset, but there were so many stops that I made on my way back that it was not possible. However, by the look of how the sun dropped behind the ridge, it didn’t look like I was going to have any interesting shots. Or at least that is what I told myself.
Now that light was diffused and everything was muted out, with the 5-stop dynamic range, I could bring out all the details including the vivid fall colors in the shadows while still keeping the details in the highlights.
The fall colors were popping like crazy at Sabrina Lake and all around Bishop, and it was the very reason why I came. This particular spot stopped me, although I wasn’t sure how I missed it earlier in the morning, and I was glad that I spotted this vantage point.
I shot a set of about 20 images with the idea of stitching them together in mind, which was great in terms of details, but eventually this single exposure image won me over. Probably because it was long exposure. Simply smoothing out the water surface adds an extra element in my opinion.
