Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken near Buena Vista, Colorado. I couldn't find much history on them, but there is a rail line very close by - I'm willing to bet the tunnels were originally for the train and not auto traffic.Time
This was taken just after noonLighting
The sun was almost directly overhead and pretty harsh - normally I'd have done multiple exposures and done an HDR, but I couldn't with the man walking his dog in motion.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 80D and Tamron 16-300mm lensInspiration
I was just exploring Colorado and had never been through Buena Vista, so I headed up there to see what was around.Editing
I played with contrast it reduce the strong shadows due to the harsh light using LightroomIn my camera bag
I normally carry a Canon 80D (I finally wore out the shutter in my trusty 70D) with a Tamron 16/300mm mounted, and a 5D Mk III with any number of lenses, ranging from a 8mm diagonal fisheye to a Sigma 200-500mm telephoto depending on what I'll be shooting. I'm usually looking for cool things at random while traveling, so I often don't plan shots beforehand - I'm a pretty impromptu/opportunistic photographer. I've found I spend the most time with various prime lenses and the 16-300mm Tamron though, the Tamron's range lets you capture almost anything on the fly and reduces the need for lens changes out in the openFeedback
Normally I'd have taken multiple exposures in this kind of light, to help reduce the contrast and eliminate the shadows using the create HDR feature in Lightroom. Experiment with it if you've never tried it.
