Atlantic puffins, those endearing little birds often referred to as "sea clowns", are the smallest of the 3 puffin varieties. Given the fact that they are terrible flyers, it is ironic that they nest on the very edges of Iceland's many high grassy cliffs in early summer. Puffins are good ocean divers and spend the winters at sea and eat mainly small fish. This little guy, and many others like him, was photographed on the Latrabjarg cliffs, which is the extreme westernmost point in Europe (yes, Iceland is considered to be part of Europe...) Possibly to their detriment they are not particularly afraid of people...

Thank you so much ... June was a great month to go see these little guys. They were starting to nest and all the flowers in Iceland were in full bloom...it was spectacular!
