Thank you. Hawaiian beleive leaving water in the sun in a blue bottle like this purifies the water and it works so I tried to portrait that here.

Location
This unique beauty was taken on the North shore secluded beach near the infamous windsurfers Ho'okipa beach on Maui HawaiiTime
Often Maui sunsets are very bright, making it difficult to get a great sunset shoot let alone see what you are shooting so I wait until the sun drops and sometime a cloud will help filter it out. Here is worked at the foreground and background has a significant distance from each otherLighting
I would say when it comes to Maui sunsets don't try it. Often it washes everything out or puts many subjects in the shadow for a natural landscape or nature shot. Here is worked as the distance the sunset from the bottle was so it did not in fact wash out my foreground subject.Equipment
Sony A 7RII, no flash, handheldInspiration
There are many health conscious and cultural people here on Maui with blue bottles being common along with the meaning & purpose of the blue bottle. Essentially the blue glass is a filter and it is said by the Hawaiian peoples if you leave water in this glass for just one hour you have PURE water that heals. It is considered sacred in ancient Hawaii and only took what they needed giving respect and thanks. "‘?lelo No‘eau Ho‘i ka wai a ka puna noho mai." I wanted to honor this in some small way and also create an other than normal "tourist" Hawaiian photo. The yellow hibiscus is the state flower but also one of the prettiest. This is my unique vision of the Maui North shore sunsets which often are very beautiful bringing to the viewer a version of what I saw this day!Editing
A barely there enhancement. One needs to be careful on these sunset shoots, too much enhancement will remove it from as natural as possible which for landscapes I like to do.In my camera bag
I primarily use the Sony A 7RII with a SEL 18-200mm F 3.5-6.3 lens.& Sel 90MM F2.8. I also carry a backup , the Canon Rebel 5 but rarely use it anymore. Although the Canon is not my favorite, one never knows when I will need those lenses or the camera. It is always wise to carry MORE. In my backpack extras of everything including car chargers, plenty of batteries and memory cards as I shoot in RAW format.I carry also the tripod and monopod with me and an umbrella, flashlight, and Macro tubes.Always learning and so my equipment grows with it. I don't forget the business cards and ipad. I try to be prepared for any shot that could come along.Feedback
I am a landscape photographer primarily so I need Patience and lots of it at times! Take risks, shoot outside your comfort zone and get creative, get low, get high, shoot in the dark, shade and sun, shoot everything and then go with what feels right for YOU.I have learned alot more since taking this photo as I always am inspired to keep learning. Look at the angle, composition, what is it you want your viewers to know about the subject? Do you have tripod, optics clean, batteries, card in place? In other words have learned to be in the moment and really think and compose the shot I want. Sometimes I do and sometimes I forget but no matter what I just do it! I always stay open to learn more! It is always fun to get creative and I get creative for my tastes not everyone else. Sometimes it works and then other times I do not like the shot but I will never know unless I give it a go!
