Location
This photograph was taken on one of the many visits to the Castle at Skylands Manor, a 1920’s designed Tudor Revival Mansion on the grounds of The New Jersey Botanical Gardens in Ringwood, NJ. This English Jacobean architectural style was common in the English countryside 400 years ago, with this 44-room building constructed of native stone and half-timbers, intentionally made to appear centuries old. During the December Holiday season, the Friends of Skylands Manor decorate select rooms of The Manor House with glittering and extravagant floor-to ceiling displays of imagination and themed delight for the year's chosen theme!Time
This photograph was taken in the early afternoon on a chilly and overcast Sunday in December. The conditions inside the Castle, where the photograph was taken, were classic textbook for this type of macro photography, not to mention the lighting.Lighting
The lighting for this photograph was all natural (with a few incandescent tree lights) and very diffused from the large windows in this particular room and the overcast weather outside and the time of day when the photo was taken. No flash was necessary, no tripod was used and the shutter speed used allowed the camera to be hand held for this type of a picture to be taken.Equipment
This picture was taken with my Nikon D7200 camera body and my Nikon 18-55mm kit zoom lens extended to about 35mm. For this photograph I used a manual mode with a shutter speed set at 1/100 sec, an aperture of F4.8 for great depth of field at the zoom used and an ISO of 6400.Inspiration
The inspiration for this photograph came from the many varied and unique festive literary motif ornamentation in this perfectly decorated venue. A perfect place for artists and photographers to find opportunities to capture the holiday spirit in a photograph.Editing
Very little post processing was required with the exception of some slight cropping to eliminate some minor distractions. In my camera bag
In my bag I normally have my Nikon D7200 camera body and the 18-55mm and 55-300mm Nikon kit lenses along with my Tamron 18-400mm zoom lens, extra storage media, batteries, table top tripod and a remote shutter release.Feedback
