Thank you! I got in the finals for the “Everything Waterfalls “ contest. I unfortunately did not win though. There were some other amazing photos that got the spot. It was an honor to make it that far though. I also have this behind the lens spot, which I am hoping it means I will get featured.

Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at a special waterfall in my home town of Jasper, Ga in the United States. It is an absolutely beautiful spot that is very secluded. It is a half of a mile hike from the road but you have to hike along the steepest stretch of this creek to get to it. This is one of my favorite spots I have ever visited.Time
I remember it was around 10:00am when I decided to go out for a hike along the creek. I had visited this spot once before but that water was at a much lower level. The water was significantly higher on this day and it made for a bit of a treacherous hike. I got to the spot around 11-1130am and began setting up to shoot.Lighting
I had a feeling the lighting was a bit harsh this day, so I knew an ND filter was gonna be needed to get the long exposure I desired. I wanted it to be well lit with natural lighting by the sun, so mid day seemed like a really good time to do so. It also made the trip in slightly safer being able to fully see the dangers of the rapids along the creek.Equipment
To capture this shot I used a Nikon D5500. The lens was the 18-55mm f3.5 kit lens (I try to push the limits of a kit lens to see how well it can perform). I used a 10 stop ND filter as well as a circular polarizer to get that clear water and lite reflections. I used an ikross tripod and a tethered shutter release.Inspiration
I was inspired by the beauty of this waterfall, when I previously visited I knew I wanted to capture the beauty of the falls just the way I see it. I love long exposure photos of waterfalls and knew this was the route I wanted to take.Editing
Yes I did, I merged 5 shots taken with different exposures into an HDR image using “NIK HDR Pro”. I then took the photo into Adobe Lightroom to edit the curves, clarity, saturation, shadows, contrast, etc. I always shoot RAW so that I have full control over my post processing. In my camera bag
This is my typical gear set up in my bag. Camera body- Nikon D5500. Lenses- Nikon AF-P Nikkor 18-55mm f3.5 DX. Nikon AF-P Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5 DX. Tokina SD 11-20mm f/2.8 DX w/ lens hood. Pro optic filters- ND 2 stop and 10 stop, circular polarizer. Flash- 2 Neewer NW 561 speedlights with Neewer FC-16 remote triggers. Tripod- Geekoto AT24 Pro Dreamer. Flash stand and umbrella- Lumopro start up kit.Feedback
My advice is- Follow your vision, the way you see an image in your head is the way it should look once finished. When your on scene, move around try to find new and different set ups for you composition. There is always another view that can make your image stand out. Also plan ahead, if you are outside- check the weather. If you are shooting at a venue- check for how busy it will be, what will the lighting be like etc. Remember to take all things into consideration.
