Location
I took this in a small town that is one county to the north of where I live. This was shot in downtown Ellijay, Ga. It is a small but beautiful town. There is lots to do and nice scenery along the way. This shot wasn’t really planned. It just happened by me deciding to make something better out of a change in plans. I already had my camera with me as I was planning to have a sit down meeting about working on some cinematography. Plans got changed at the last minute so I made the better of this situation and went out prowling the night for photo opportunities.Time
It was around 11pm - 12am, not many people were out in the town and in order to get the trail from the tail lights I had to set a timer and use my own car.Lighting
It was dark, the only lighting in the shot was the ones lighting the streets and shops after dark. That mixed with a long exposure made for a beautiful image.Equipment
My Nikon D5500 along with a Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 dx lens. I had the camera mounted on my Geekoto 77” tripod and connected to my phone using WiFi, this allowed me to trigger the shutter wirelessly and get my focus set.Inspiration
The neon lights in the location is what inspired me. I knew that along with the shop lights would make a beautiful and vibrant photo. I really wanted to make the best of my plans being cancelled. I always want to look on the bright side of a situation and make the best of it.Editing
Yes, I used Adobe Lightroom to bring up the clarity and the HSL sliders to add a bit more color as well brighten up the image a tad bit.In my camera bag
Camera- Nikon D5500 Lenses- 18-55mm f/3.5 kit lens, Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 wide angle lens. Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5 dx. Flash- 2 Neewer NW-561 strobes with wireless trigger releases. Lens filters- ND and CPL. Tripod- Geekoto “77 inch as well as Neewer tethered Digital shutter release.Feedback
Don’t let a bad situation ruin your day/night go out and shoot. Do your best and be creative. Also understand your camera and how to use it in full manual so you have complete control. If you want light stars in your photo you will need to close down your aperture to achieve this, don’t be afraid of this method letting in less light during the night, as you will counter act this by increasing your exposure time.
