Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Burnt Mountain Church in Pickens, Ga.

Time

This was taken in the evening around 5-6pm.

Lighting

I used natural light from the evening sun, making sure to use a slow aperture and foliage cover to capture a sun star.

Equipment

Nikon d5500, tokina 11-20mm f2.8 lens. Tripod Geekoto tripod.

Inspiration

Seeing the fall colors as well as the heavenly light shining around the church.

Editing

Yes, I went in to drop the highlights, lift the shadows, add some contrast, raise the clarity and make color adjustments to bring out the beautiful scene I witnessed first hand.

In my camera bag

Currently I carry my Sony a7riv, sigma 28-70mm f2.8, a Nikon d5500, tokina 11-20mm f/2.8, nikkor 35mm 1.8, nikkor 70-300mm, a trigger release for both camera and a phopick 77” tripod.

Feedback

Take a looke around, look at the lighting and try different angles to capture the composition that feels right to you. Also, don’t be afraid of post processing! It’s a tool to help you create create an image just the way you saw it.
