Location
This photo was taken down stream of “Padgett Falls” a local waterfall in my county (Pickens, Ga). I have always been Intrigued by the waterfall and decided to try and capture it. The main falls was chocked full of wood/trees and by the end of the trip I ended up getting better photos of the smaller rapids along the creek. It was a decent hike in through the valley/gorge walking up stream. There are several spots that can be dangerous due to passing under fallen trees that span the width of the gorge. All in all the pay off was well worth it.Time
It was earlier in the morning, around 9-10:00am. Where the falls was located it was quite shaded and the sun was still spilling in with a slight golden hue.Lighting
Like I mentioned the sun was still spilling in with some golden hue do to the valley/gorge and forest the creek is located in.Equipment
I used a Nikon D5500 with the 18-55 mm kit lens along with a 10 stop ND (neutral density) and a circular polarizing filters. My camera was mounted on a 77” Geekoto tripod with a tethered Neewer Digital timer shutter release.Inspiration
My inspiration is my love for long exposure shots. So much magic and artistic presence can be created with a long exposure.Editing
Yes, I used Adobe Lightroom to enhance the golden hue and added clarity along with a few other adjustments to bring out the beauty of the water.In my camera bag
Camera- Nikon D5500 Lenses- 18-55mm f/3.5 kit lens, Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 wide angle lens. Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5 dx. Flash- 2 Neewer NW-561 strobes with wireless trigger releases. Lens filters- ND and CPL. Tripod- Geekoto “77 inch as well as Neewer tethered Digital shutter release.Feedback
Be vigilant and don’t give up on a photo opportunity. See your vision through and don’t pass up the shots you will think has a lessor pay off, it might turn out to be the best shot. Also don’t be afraid to get creative, try new things to help capture a great photo. For example with this shot I switched the camera mount on my tripod so that I could shoot upside down, underneath the legs of the tripod. Doing so allowed me to get even closer to the water.
