Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Romania, one of the few countries where we can find the European Bison.

Time

This was a cold morning despite the sun and clear sky. I had to wake up at night and drive to the sanctuary so I can find the bison at sunrise. They are shy creatures and only come out of the woods to feed.

Lighting

I was hoping for a nice sunrise light and I got lucky. The two bison waked right into a clearing and into a beautiful morning light.

Equipment

I used my old friend, the Canon 5D mkII with the Canon 70-300 L

Inspiration

I love these animals. And I am happy they are making a comeback in Europe after being almost extinct. Few countries like Romania, Ukrainian, Belarus and Poland are making efforts to breed and protect this magnificent animals. For now they live mostly in protected arias but I hope one day the bison will roam the forests of Europe again.

Editing

I kept the post-processing to a minimum. Only some light adjustment and white balance.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Canon 5D Mk II and two lenses. The Canon 16-35 f/4 L and the Canon 70-300 L. I also carry extra batteries and CF cards.

Feedback

When trying to photograph animals you need a lot of patience . A LOT !!! :) . It helps to know a little about the animals you are trying to find, like feeding habits or territory but it's mostly about patience and luck :)
