This photo was taken at Sovereign Hill in Ballarat, Victoria. It was a special event and I took this photo as the sun was starting to go down and I had to bend down and take the photo through the wooden pickets of the fence. You can see the edge of one of the pickets on the left hand side.Time
It was very late afternoon, just as the sun was setting.Lighting
The light was quite soft as the whole area is on the side of a hill and was in shade. I was very lucky it turned out as well as it did.Equipment
I now use a Canon 80D, with the L series 100-400mm lens. I rarely use a tripod or flash.Inspiration
It was just stood there motionless and I thought it would start moving as soon as I bent down to take the photo but it didn't .Editing
I lightened the photo a little as it was quite under-exposed do to the shadows being cast by the hill.In my camera bag
Canon 80D, 100-400mm L series lens, 24mm Canon Lens, 10-20 Sigma Lens, sometimes depending on the type of photos I am taking I sometimes have a macro LED light and a torch.Feedback
This is just one of those shots where being in the right place at the right time, My wife took a similar one from a little further along the fence and it didn't turn out quite as well. The angle was all important. I think the real story behind a lot of the magnificent shots seen on ViewBug, is take lots of photos. Eventually you will get one like this.
