Location
This was taken in my home near a large window. Having big windows inside can be a wonderful tool to capture natural light especially during certain times of day when the light outside is too bright. Being indoors using natural window light can sometimes make for an easier photoshoot than having to deal with all the lighting obstacles outside during certain times of the day. I am always looking for any windows for light sources to capture natural and beautiful soft portraitsTime
This was taken in mid-afternoon on a sunny day giving me gorgeous natural light from my windowsLighting
I personally love using natural light for my portraits so it is important to find beautiful lighting for both outdoor and indoor portraits. Be aware of all or any of the natural light coming inside if you aren’t able to take portraits outside for various reasons. I also recommend experimenting with any shadows that may be partially blocking or making different patterns of light and shadow of your subject. It can lead to some interesting and stunning results so have fun while using any natural light sources and just try new things to learn more every time you experiment.Equipment

Like I said above, the beautiful natural light coming through my windows inspired me to take this portrait. I love the lovely softness it brings to her face while radiating through her eyesEditing
I used Lightroom to convert to Black & White and just did a few basic adjustments! In my camera bag
Canon 7D Prime lenses such as my 50mm are my usual go to for close up portraits I will also have a wide angle lens for different usesFeedback
Don’t be hesitant about experimenting inside using any natural light sources no matter if they are small or large or have obstacles. Experiment with all sorts of different natural light patterns inside to learn new and interesting ways you can capture light. I am self taught so I am always learning as I go and I find it inspiring and exciting when I try using unusual ways to use any light sources that are available to me. It’s a great way to learn about using light without always using a flash and just have fun!
