I took this photo of my niece in my brother's back yardTime
It was early evening so the light was perfect with no harsh sunlightLighting
I rarely use flash. I like to use mainly natural light and I try to capture photos during the perfect time of day for natural light so it is diffuse and is soft for portraitsEquipment
I used my canon 7D and my 50 mm prime lens and nothing elseInspiration
I love movement in hair and in the past I would shoot on windy days or use a fan to get loose and messy hair so without having either of those things on this particular day, I asked my lovely niece with her gorgeous long hair to flip her hair back and forth and look towards me in the moment so I could freeze that moment. It came out exactly like I wanted and I love that her hair is the only part of the photo in motion while her face is perfectly poised and looking right at the camera!Editing
No. I only added a little contrast to boost the colorsIn my camera bag
My canon 7D and my two favorite prime lenses, my 50 mm and 85mm. I always have a wide angle lens and sometimes I'll bring my external flashFeedback
Just play around with movement and click away until you get your perfect shot!
