I went back to Middlefork Savannah to check out the woodpeckers. I had been told that they are busy in the fall, finding nuts, cracking them and hiding pieces as well as the whole nuts in tree crevices for the winter. They were really, really busy doing this. It was fun to watch. This woodpecker flew into the woods and is resting in this photo after putting pieces of a large nut into various spots in the branches.
