Behind The Lens

Location

After playing a round of golf at "The Reserve" in Hillsboro, Oregon we went to the Club House for the coveted "19th" hole refreshments. I ordered a glass of wine and Crab Cakes with Arugula. To my astonishment, this picture perfect entree was placed in front of me. Not only was it beautiful, it was quite tasty too.

Time

Late afternoon, just in time for "Happy Hour".

Lighting

We were seated outside, so the lighting was natural. The late afternoon sun had mellowed and presented softer and more optimum lighting conditions to capture the photo.

Equipment

As has happened more times than I can count, I did not have my camera and my iPhone X saved the day.

Inspiration

The colorful, artistic food presentation.

Editing

Simple fine-tuning, minimal.

In my camera bag

My work horse is a Nikon D5000 with my Nikon 18-55 mm and Tamron 16-300 mm lens. My camera and cell phone are essential for capturing the moment. I also carry an extra battery, photo card and manual.

Feedback

Seize the moment. With photography, the "perfect capture" can present itself and then be gone in a second. When you see the beauty, humor or inspiration do your best to act on your instinct and shoot. If you are setting up a shot, know what you are hoping to achieve with light and composition. Create your best photo.
