Location
While traveling to British Columbia we took a detour and visited a bird sanctuary. This tropical beauty is called a Green Crested Turaco and my lens was just drawn to him.Time
This is one of my favorite images. The photograph was taken at days end after a full day of exploring. Nice way to finish the day.Lighting
I used a flash to gain some extra "high lights" for this image.Equipment
My Nikon D5000 with a 16-300 mm lens.Inspiration
The color of this bird is amazing and absolutely drew me in. The look in the birds eye was especially captivating. What a beauty.Editing
Minimal fine tuning using the camera edit settings on iPhoto. In my camera bag
My reliable "workhorse" camera is a Nikon D5000 with a Nikon 50 mm and Tamron 16-300 mm lens as a backup. I always pack my iPhone for the unexpected photo opportunities that present themselves when I don't have my Nikon with me.Feedback
Try and pick the best angle for light and showcasing your subject matter. By taking a number of shots of the same subject you have the ability to pick your best capture. Closeups are always great, but don't be afraid to step back and include the entire frame.
