IMG_3431 Walking on the esplanade in Oregon City. Light filtered behind-through this dandelion and caught my attention. This capture was with an iPhone. I credit this image with propelling me into more serious photography. Loving the journey.

Location
I was walking along the esplanade by the landmark Falls in Oregon City on my lunch hour. It is a vista that affords you a view of bridges, fishermen, boats, seals, birds, factories and the Falls on the Willamette River. The upper pathway is lined with historical houses, gardens, and trees.Time
It was around noon. The sun was shining and you could hear the roar of the Falls, the loud whistle and vibration of the train which was passing right next to the Oregon City Elevator. There are a set of stairs that align with the train track and you are literally a few yards away from the clattering train.Lighting
The lighting was unique. The sun was overhead, but the dandelion was in a shaded area for the most part. A ray of sunshine illuminated the seed head and I knew it was going to be a special capture. A matter of being in the right place at the right time.Equipment
The only thing I had was my iPhone. I stood over the top of the dandelion, got as close as I could, focused and took the shot.Inspiration
The dandelion was illuminated and so beautiful I was drawn to it. I knew the light might not last and the wind could blow the seed head away. Timing was of the essence. I knew how lucky I was to get the capture. The seed head had blown away by the next day.Editing
Minimal processing to fine tune the image. In my camera bag
I obviously have my iPhone with me at all times now. My camera is a Nikon D5000. I generally carry my 16mm-300mm Tamron lens or my 90mm macro lens. I have learned to be prepared through trial and error. A backup photo card, battery, and cleaning kit are essentials. Since I live in the Pacific NW, a rain cover is also prudent.Feedback
Capturing a photo like this has a lot to do with timing and light. I view the world like I am looking through a lens. We don't always have a tripod or a camera with us, so when the opportunity presents itself, grab your cell phone and seize the moment!
