Great photo..."missed it by that much" (Get Smart), but with a long lens and panning, amazing capture.

I had the honour of a flight in a two seater Spitfire MJ627 last year at Biggin Hill. Such an awesome plane.

Location
I took the photo at NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE. It was the last show of the year for the THUNDERBIRDS and the SPITFIRE was part of the show.Time
At NELLIS, the viewing areas are to the west of the flight line and the mountains are to the east. As I was watching the show, I thought catching one of the WWII aircraft against the mountains would make a great shot. The SPITFIRE made three passes down the center of the runway and each time I took 8 or 10 shots with the mountains in the background hoping to catch just this shot. The show started about 1PM and this was taken about 2PM.Lighting
The desert, cloudless, bright sunny day.Equipment
My NIKON D7100 and TAMRON 16-300 lens are a great combination for airshows.Inspiration
I am a big WWII airplane history buff and we do not have many of the British aircraft in the USA. The chance to capture a SPITFIRE was too exciting to pass up.Editing
NO SPOST PROCESSING was used for the photo. I don't believe in it, I either get the photo or I don't.In my camera bag
My NIKON D7100 and TAMRON 16-300 and a couple of memory cards are all that I carry .Feedback
Set the shutter speed to 1/90 th and shoot on continuous . You should be able to capture movement in the propeller and if you pan with the subject, you can blur the background, and the aircraft should be in focus.
