Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the State Fair of Texas, the Texas Star is one of the icons at the fair.

Time

This was taken in late afternoon on a cloudless day

Lighting

The sun was at my back for this shot, which helped to highlight the wheel against the clear skies

Equipment

This was taken hand-held with a Canon 70D and Tamron 17-300mm lens.

Inspiration

The Texas Star is one of the highlights of the fair, I took a number of shots of it that day

Editing

I did very little in post to this shot, just a bit of color and lighting enhancements in LightRoom.

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Canon 70D with a Tamron 16/300mm mounted and a 5D Mk III with any number of lenses ranging from a 8mm diagonal fisheye to a Sigma 200-500mm telephoto, depending on what I'll be shooting. I'm usually looking for cool things at random while traveling, so I don't get to plan a lot of shots beforehand - I've found I spend the most time with various prime lenses and the 17-300mm Tamron though, the Tamron's range lets you capture almost anything on the fly and reduces the need for lens changes out in the open

Feedback

I walked around the Ferris Wheel looking for interesting angles, trying to use things like the supports as leading lines for my shots.
