Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my hometown in Belgium. It was a mostly sunny that day.

Time

It must have been around 15h. We went for some shade in the bushes I wanted to make something with a lot of contrast.

Lighting

Harsh light came trough openings between bushes and trees, that is what 's showing as 'bokeh' in the background. Somewhat more above us there was an opening between trees so some of that intense sunlight fell on the model... but from the back, it was used as separator light between model and background. For her eyes and face the mother of the model, who was my assistant for the day, held a reflector. I aimed so it correspond with the light bokeh comming through the background.

Equipment

It was shot with a Canon 7D and a Sigma 70 - 200mm. No flash, just reflector.

Inspiration

I immediately liked the shot. It was a test shoot to develop my style in kids photography.

Editing

I made sure that the black and white conversion deepened the green shadows to emphasise the bokeh effect.

In my camera bag

Not much: my camera and two lenses and a reflector.

Feedback

Look a bit around on any location for some 'lucky light conditions', there almost always is. Happy shooting!! :-)
