I ventured into the woods keeping in mind to capture birds, but unfortunately there were only few birds that too far away, I waited patiently to get at least one or two good shots of the birds but did not succeed, I thought to myself that its a bad day for me and was about to return home half heartedly,
when suddenly my eyes went on this little colorful butterfly wondering about, I then slowly followed it in the direction where it
was moving and I steadily followed it, but to my fate this butterfly was hardly resting on the plants and was giving me a tough time, and it’s nearly impossible to predict where and when they will move, and this will test your patience, as I still continued to move slowly and patiently.... then this cute little butterfly finally rested on the tiny flower. By the way I did not have my macro lens but I was able to get close with my 250 mm lens that I had and as I began to focus on this butterfly there were some leaves in the foreground as an obstacle then I almost bent down and knelt to get away from those leaves and continued to focus but for my luck
the butterfly continued to rest, and in that decisive moment I took the shot.
But keep in mind that extreme close ups can only be achieved with a macro lens, Always be sure to use a tripod to keep the camera steady, and wait for the butterfly to land and then go ahead with the shot.

Great capture! I have found that, when possible, sometimes a long lens works better than a macro. I was wondering where you live that you have such beautiful butterflies. Are you in Southeast Asia?

Location
This photo was taken in few kilometers away from a university campus close to my house.Time
This picture is one of my favorite butterfly picture, It was around 4:45 pm when I suddenly spotted this cute little colorful butterfly hoping around the plants, I then slowly followed it in the direction where it was moving and I steadily followed it, but to my fate this butterfly was hardly resting on the plants and was giving me a tough time, and it’s nearly impossible to predict where and when they will move, and this will test your patience, as I still continued to move slowly and patiently.... then this cute little butterfly finally rested on the tiny flower. By the way I did not carry my tripod or my macro lens but I was able to get close with my 250 mm lens that I had and as I began to focus on this butterfly there were some leaves in the foreground as an obstacle then I almost bent down and knelt to get away from those leaves and continued to focus and but for my good luck the butterfly continued to rest, and in that decisive moment I took the shot.Lighting
I wanted this image to look attractive where it could draw attention to the eye of the viewer, so I knelt down and moved slightly towards my right where a patch of light from above was falling exactly on the butterfly from behind.Equipment
This was shot on Canon 600D, with 250mm lens and no other equipment was involvedInspiration
The colors on the this cute butterfly was very attractive and so pleasing and even matching with the plants around and the background as well.Editing
When shooting Macro Photography, processing becomes essential since the camera settings at times do not match the available light conditions and as most of the time the shadows and the available vibrance in the image do not get enough attention to the viewers eyes, and well for all photographers its advisable to always shoot in RAW, I did post processing since I shot this image in RAW and brought the right contrast, highlights, vibrance in its place and also increased the shadows just a bit.In my camera bag
I carry a Canon Telephoto Lens i e 250 mm especially for wildlife and nature photography and always wish to capture a beautiful butterly sitting on my camera.... I also carry a Canon 55-85 mm to shoot landscape whenever I feel its a beautiful day "WATER"- to quench my thirst to stay cool and composed. :) :) and of-course a Tripod.Feedback
In Macro photography one should be very patience, calm and composed and wait for the right time. but keep in mind that extreme close ups can only be achieved with a macro lens, Check for various light as possible which can illuminate the subject. check the colors of background, surroundings, and situations, be prepared for disturbances but stay as calm as possible to get the right moment to happen, and trust me it will happen. Always make sure to use a tripod to keep the camera steady, and wait for the butterfly to sit calm for a while and then go ahead with the shot.
