Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken on an open-mic night at Luckenbach, Texas. The open-mic night is held behind the Post Office/General Store/Bar - there's not much else here other than the dance hall and a couple of houses. The population of the whole town during the day really is just three people.

Time

This was taken during the golden hour in early evening, the sun was just starting to set

Lighting

The outside lighting had just come on, keeping the shots from being too grainy.

Equipment

This was taken hand-held with a Canon 70D and Tamron 16-300mm lens - I didn't want to carry too much gear around!

Inspiration

It's Luckenbach, how could I resist? :-)

Editing

Lighting was enhanced a bit in LightRoom, that's about it

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Canon 80D (I finally wore out the shutter in my trusty 70D) with a Tamron 16/300mm mounted, and a 5D Mk III with any number of lenses, ranging from a 8mm diagonal fisheye to a Sigma 200-500mm telephoto depending on what I'll be shooting. I'm usually looking for cool things at random while traveling, so I often don't plan shots beforehand - I'm a pretty impromptu/opportunistic photographer. I've found I spend the most time with various prime lenses and the 16-300mm Tamron though, the Tamron's range lets you capture almost anything on the fly and reduces the need for lens changes out in the open

Feedback

I probably shoudl have skipped the all-around Tamron lens in favor of something with a bit wider aperture for the lower light levels
