Behind The Lens
Location
I shot this in my living room, the crystal ball was sitting on the fireplace hearthTime
I honestly don't remember the time of day, but it was probably after dark.Lighting
I tried to keep ambient lighting down so the ball would pick up as much light as possible from the fireEquipment
This was taken hand-held with a Canon 5d mk-III and a Canon 85mm F1.8 lens.Inspiration
I had just bought the crystal ball and was just playing with how to use it :-)Editing
I did very minimal lighting changes in LightroomIn my camera bag
I normally carry a Canon 70D with a Tamron 16/300mm mounted and a 5D Mk III with any number of lenses ranging from a 8mm diagonal fisheye to a Sigma 200-500mm telephoto, depending on what I'll be shooting. I'm usually looking for cool things at random while traveling, so I don't get to plan a lot of shots beforehand - I've found I spend the most time with various prime lenses and the 17-300mm Tamron though, the Tamron's range lets you capture almost anything on the fly and reduces the need for lens changes out in the openFeedback
I was as close as I could get with the 85mm lens when I shot this - it may have been a bit more dramatic shot if I'd have used a wider lens that would have allowed me to get closer to the globe while filling the frame a bit better? I may play with this setup again now that the weather is getting colder!
