Location
This photo was taken in the Nabib desert near Sossusvlei Namibia.Time
We arrived at Dead Vlei in the late afternoon and spent our time walking around the dunes and across the Vlei. It's truely a spectacular location. We started to walk back to our car because the sun was going down and as we walked past this dune I saw the shrub and thought it looked good. The light was so great that I just took the shoot.Lighting
This was taken quite a few years ago and I didn't travel with a tripod then. Now I would have set up up a tripod, taken bracketed shots and blended them in Photoshop; this image is a constant reminder that is the light is right you can capture it all in one shot.Equipment
No tripod I just saw the scene and snapped it. It was with my old Canon 300D and the standard 18-55mm EF lensInspiration
The Namibian dunes at sunset are spectacular and its hard not to take a good shot. I was in the right place at the right time.Editing
This has been adjusted in lightroom and photoshop to improve the framing and colours. In my camera bag
I've moved on from the 300D and now have a Canon 5d mkIII. I always use a tripod for my landscape photos to ensure they are sharp. I've a number of lenses but my favorite landscape lens is the 16-35 mm f4Feedback
If you find yourself somewhere where you are spoilt for choice for great images then focus on capturing one well before you move on. Sometimes you can run around trying to capture everything and end up with nothing.
