Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in Falmouth, Cornwall when I was walking along a quiet road after visiting the beach, I'd been photographing seascapes, and flora and fauna on the beach and was walking back through part of the town.

Time

It was mid afternoon on a very sunny day

Lighting

Strong sunlight highlighted the flaking paint and the colour

Equipment

handheld Nikon D5100 with telephoto lens 55-300mm

Inspiration

I just loved the abstract effect, colour and texture of the flaking paint and the dried out wood behind

Editing

Minimal, just adjusted the contrast a little

In my camera bag

I pretty much always carry my Nikon D5100 which is my favourite, with a Nikkor telephoto lens (55-300mm). I always always have spare battery and SD cards! If the weather looks suspect, I carry a waterproof bag to protect the camera. I also have a Nikon J2 with 10-30mm lens for more wide angle shots and an Olympus TG-1 which I use when the weather is wet as it is waterproof. I have recently bought a Nikon Coolpix P900 which I find is really versatile for the varied subjects I like to shoot. I do have a monopod and a tripod, macro equipment, filters, flash gun etc. but don't often carry them to be honest!

Feedback

Even when you're visiting somewhere for stunning landscapes (Cornwall has some amazing coastline) it is good to keep an eye out for the unexpected, this shot was taken in a very mundane situation. Being an opportunist means you'll get shots that others might pass by without noticing!
