I have never seen this kind of Robin. Do you know more about what kind it is ? Very pretty little bird. I am only Familiar with the American Robin. Thanks for any extra info you might have.

This was taken in the woods just around the corner from my house, a place I go to regularly for a walk and some peace and quiet. This little robin got to know me and was happy to pose quite close byTime

I usually carry my Nikon D5100 with telephoto lens and always a spare battery & SD card. In case of rain I have waterproof bag and a small towel. I tend not to carry a tripod or monopod that often, but I sometimes take my Nikon J2 with 10-30mm lens for more wide angle shots and Olympus TG-1 when it is wet weather as it is waterproof. I have ND filters, macro gear and a flash gun but they only go in the bag if I know I am shooting specific subjects whereas in general I'm an opportunist and tend to shoot a variety of subjects. I recently bought a Nikon Coolpix P900 which is very versatile and I use that quite a lot these days although the D5100 remains my favouriteFeedback
Small birds can be tricky because they tend to be wary of people although robins are famous for being friendly especially in winter. Some people tempt them with mealworms but in general, the main thing is to be aware of where you may see them, their habits and get to know their birdsong so you'll be able to hear them before you see them. Then try to be inconspicuous (camouflage clothing is good) and move quietly and slowly. A telephoto lens is helpful to be able to shoot from a distance, many people use a tripod to stabilise the shot. I use aperture setting about f5.6 to isolate the subject but sometimes you need to bump up the ISO to keep a reasonable shutter speed especially for birds in flight. Finally, be patient, with yourself as much as the bird and keep returning till you get the shot you want!
