Location
This is a photo of a statue in the Dallas ArboretumTime
This was taken around mid-day, so lighting was a bit harsh even filtered through the fall treesLighting
The sun was almost directly overhead, so shadowing between light and dark areas was pretty heavy.Equipment
This was taken hand-held with a Canon 70D and 85mm F2.8 lens.Inspiration
I was just wandering the park with a friend and liked the statue!Editing
This is an older shot - I played with lighting a bit in Elements and converted the shot to mono, not much else was doneIn my camera bag
I normally carry a Canon 70D with a Tamron 16/300mm mounted for a 'ready for anything' setup. If I'm going for something specific I'll also carry a 5D Mk III and whatever lens fits what I want to achieve. I'm usually looking for cool things at random while traveling, so I often don't get to plan a lot of shots beforehand. However I've found the lenses that spend the most time on the 5D are various primes or Wide-Angle zooms. On the 70D I like the Tamron's range as it allows you to capture almost anything on the fly and reduces the need for lens changes out in the openFeedback
I've now started bracketing shots in this kind of lighting, in order to create an HDR to balance over/under exposed areas. That would have helped a lot on this shot...
