Behind The Lens

Location

My friend and I often go on the light one day hiking trips on the mountain Sljeme (Medvednica) here in Zagreb, or nearby mountain ranges of Samoborsko or Žumberacko gorje. This picture I took on the way to mountaineering shelter Oštrc on the mountain range Samoborsko gorje (3500 feet).

Time

It was 16:38 PM.

Lighting

Sunlight was pretty strong and well above us, so not very attractive light for taking landscape pictures, so I took friends closeup instead.

Equipment

I used my trusty Olympus E-3 DSLR and very old Olympus Zuiko manual lens OM f:8 500 mm cateye reflex (mirror) lens which I normally don't use on our hiking trips.

Inspiration

There was not some special reason, than make a document and reminder photo. We often take pictures of each other as we both are amateur photographers.

Editing

Nothing special than convert it to B&W. Some contrast is added, darkening a bit to solve unwanted background elements and light sharpening. That's all.

In my camera bag

I prefer to go with "minimal" equipment especially when hiking and it depends on where I go and what I expect to take pictures off, but this is the case when I'm familiar with location. My gear is Olympus bodies E-3 and E-520. Lenses are Olympus Zuiko 12-60mm SWD f:2,8-4, Zuiko 50-200 mm f:2,8-3,5, Zuiko Macro 50 mm f:2, Tele-converter 2x and Om 500 mm f:8 reflex. Flash stays at home most of the time.

Feedback

Try to be inquisitive, make experiments when you have an idea. Later when you do post processing play a bit and try to do different things and you'll be surprised what you'll get.
