Original post was a bit rough on this image, so I cleaned it up and uncropped it, adjusting the sat levels. By cropping it the first time I lost much of the DOF. Cloned out the red reflector in the backdrop.....much better, I think ;)

There's not a lot more to add because it's all been written, but this is a shot to be more than proud of. Absolutely beautiful, in subject, colours, lighting and composition.

Wow! Congrats on the awards. So well deserved! Love this image. :-) Awesome leading lines, composition, clarity of the fox's face. Just awesome! :-)

Great color and light in this capture. Think the adjustment to the sat levels is very good, does not looked over cooked like you see on many photo's with high red color content. Really like the fine detail in the capture from the whiskers to the white toes.

It’s not just the colours and light and atmosphere that make this such a great picture, it just blows my mind that you’ve managed to get such a great pose from a fox, they’re usually so skitty and hard to pin down. Well done indeed.

Location
This photo was captured on the Wilmington & Western RR line that runs along White Clay Creek in Millcreek, DE.Time
I love this image. I stopped on my way to work around 7:00 am. I still revisit it on a regular basis as there is plenty of wildlife and amazing scenery to capture.Lighting
The area I was in is surrounded by trees and some rock formations. The sun had not yet climbed to high so there was no harsh light to wash out anything.Equipment
I used my Nikon D50. No flash, no tripod.Inspiration
This was one of those serendipitous photos that i was just fortunate to have captured. I was actually there to shoot a covered bridge that spans the creek. There were actually 2 foxes that emerged from the brush on the opposite bank of the creek. They obviously were as surprised to see me as I was them. We all froze for a few seconds, they scrambled back into the brush and I took off up the bank to see if I could catch them coming up where the rail line was. To my surprise, one was there. He was about 100 feet from me. I managed lure him closer with an apple. As he approached, I didn't notice at first that he had stepped up on the rail but as soon as I did he just stood there (probably to size me up) and I just pointed, framed and clicked away.Editing
I cropped the image a bit, adjusted the saturation with just a bit of sharpening. There was a red reflector in the background which was very distracting so I brushed it out.In my camera bag
I carry my Nikon D50 and D7000, 35mm & 85mm prime lenses, 55-200mm zoom. I also have an assortment of filters but my favorite is the Hoya ND10! Nikon SB 600 speed flash and spare batteries for it. I like to keep a pen and paper in the bag to make note on locations I find in passing so I can return and explore.Feedback
As conditions permit (extreme heat/cold) always have your gear with you. Life can happen in a spilt second and you want to be prepared. Explore remote locations, abandoned buildings ( always make sure they are safe before entering ) there are a lot of hidden gems out there just waiting to be found. Sometimes, as with this photo, you end up with something totally unexpected but very rewarding!
