Location
The photo was taken in the summer of 2010 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was a very sunny day, and everything was filmed a few steps from my house.Time
To create this image required the sun, so, as soon as I woke up with my girlfriend, we were waiting for the moment when the sun would be at the correct height, and that at this point the sky is not delayed by clouds, which is typical enough for St. Petersburg.Lighting
The sun is almost upon us. My girl shook in my scarf, which is just a few years before my mother gave me. Holding hands charm edge so that it looked like a field cap, we were looking for the right position, so that the sun created a light and shadow, which will form a pleasant and interesting pattern on the face.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D300, with an Nikkor 85 1.4D. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
In the evening, the day before the shooting, we discussed the wardrobe with clothes. And accidentally found a scarf that I had long forgotten. My girlfriend started to play with him in all the wrapping it. And then, at some point, the lighting of the lamps in the room, thanks to the correct position of the scarf, threw a very interesting pattern on the face. I made a photo, and when he saw him, we realized that in bright sunlight can make a very interesting photo.Editing
Survey was conducted in RAW format, because of the very bright sun part of the photo was overexposed, and some - very black. Therefore, in the processing of the shadows had lighten, and overexposure to pull the details. Of the most difficult - retouching the girl's face, as due to the geometric pattern, some irregularities have been difficult to remove it.In my camera bag
Usually, when I go out to take pictures of people, I take the "portrait" kit. It includes Nikon D3s (although now I started using Nikon Df), Sigma ART 24mm 1.4, Sigma Art 35 1.4, Nikkor 50 1.8 and Nikkor 85 1.4D. With such a focal length and aperture I can take pictures of practically any plot at any time of the day. In 2009, I was limited to Nikon D300, Nikkor 85 1.4D and Tokina 16-50 2.8.Feedback
Originally, it is to decide what kind of light will be used. There are three options: The first is the light of the sun. Second, it's a street electric light. Third, this studio lighting or flash. Next you need to understand that it will cast a shadow. It can be both objects in the city, then while walking just need to notice the drop shadows and think at what time and what the position of the sun will be ideal for the desired scene. Or it may be portable items, creating an interesting shadow. Then just need to find the right place to use it.
