Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in 2009, in the city of Pskov, Russia. This is the main street of the city.

Time

In the morning I met with a friend who had previously photographed several times. We met for a normal conversation about what's new in the summer. She described her trip to Spain. Soon there was a heavy rain, while I just picked up a camera. So I asked a girlfriend to move away from me and started to go up at me. I could only seize the moment.

Lighting

Shooting in the summer when the sun is high - not always the best time, because everything becomes flat, and on the faces of people appear bad shadows. But when the sky is tightened clouds, lighting becomes soft and uniform, and because of the rain at a short distance from the subject can be seen aerial perspective.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D300, with an Nikkor 80-200 2.8D. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

The photo was taken by chance. I love to shoot in the rain, but rarely in such moments next to me is a model for the shooting. This time I was lucky.

Editing

Photo left so successful that almost did not require treatment. Mainly in RAW I had to change the color temperature and just sharpen.

In my camera bag

Usually, when I go out on a photographic walk around the city, I take the "reportage" kit. It includes Nikon D3s (although now I started using Nikon Df), Nikkor 80-200 2.8, Nikkor 24-70 2.8, Sigma 15mm 2.8 Fisheye, and Nikkor 50 1.8. With such a focal length and aperture I can take pictures of practically any urban plot at any time of the day. In 2009, I was limited to Nikon D300, Nikkor 85 1.4D and Tokina 16-50 2.8. Sometimes I go out only with Nikon D300 and Nikkor 80-200 2.8D.

Feedback

Predict in advance the model shoot very difficult in the rain, but because of the weather forecast - it is still possible. Normally, to be seen in the photo raindrops, depth of field should not be very big, and the holding time - just short. As a result, you should get the picture, which are sharp shooting model and drops close to the model.
