Location
I took this photo in one of Calgary's local parks. This is a popular photo site for photographers.Time
I chose late afternoon in October to get the low sunlight from the West.Lighting
I wanted the beautiful rim light to make her hair glow like a halo. Having the low position of the sun backlighting the image gave me the desired effect.Equipment
My equipment at this time was a Canon 7D MkII and kit lens 18-135mm shot at 50mm f5.0, 1/250sec, ISO100Inspiration
This is one of my most favourite photos of my daughter. I had this image in my head months before execution. Whenever I went shopping, I was always on the lookout for the perfect dress, and then waiting on the prefect day for the perfect Fall weather. It finally all came together on Oct 21, 2015. Funny thing is that she never wore the dress again.Editing
There wasn't much post-processing. I like to get the image as correct as possible right out of camera. I darkened the highlights to bring out more detail in the grasses and added a bit of contrast and vibrance to saturate the colour of her hair.In my camera bag
These days I pack 2 Canon R5 bodies and 4 RF lenses - 15-35mm f2.8, 28-70mm f2.0, 70-200mm f2.8, and the 100-500mm f4.5-7.1. I also carry my 10stop ND filters and tripod if I want to capture any long exposure landscape images. I like to be ready for just about any situation when I'm out and about. If I'm shooting something specific, then I usually only take 2 lenses.Feedback
Plan, plan, and patience. Sometimes when I get these ideas in my head, I will actually sketch out the image in quick line drawings. This helps to put together the image and help me plan for the clothing, day and time to get the atmosphere just right. I have so many more in my head at this time.....keep watching for more of my daughter to come!
