This photo was captured in Golden, BC, Canada just beside the bridge crossing the Kicking Horse River heading up to the Kicking Horse Resort.Time
This was taken in the mid afternoon, hence the high sun.Lighting
With this particular shot, I decided to use the bright midday sun to my advantage. I made sure to use a small aperture to get the star-like effect of the sun. Normally I find this time of day to be somewhat difficult to shoot in with the harsh light, but this is proof that you can capture great photos at any time.Equipment
The only equipment used was my Canon 7D Mk II and its 18-135mm lens.Inspiration
My whole weekend visiting Golden was a photographic workshop of sorts for my friend and I. We came to Golden with the sole purpose of capturing great shots and experimenting without spouses in tow. I had just finished a few shoreline photos of the Kicking Horse River and headed back to my car when I noticed these flowers and decided to play around with different perspectives. I absolutely loved the result!Editing
Very little post-processing, I increased the vibrancy and clarity and cropped slightly. I've been passionate about photography since the late 70s and, so, have always believed in capturing the image in camera.In my camera bag
My backpack is usually loaded down with my Canon7D Mk II, my 2 lenses: an 18-135mm and 55-250mm, and my 430EX flash. I frequently go hiking in the Rocky Mountains and try not to have too heavy of a load. Many times I would like to have my tripod with me but I usually opt for a nearby rock.Feedback
Best advice would be to not be afraid to experiment. Put your camera on the ground. Capture all possible perspectives. This image was shot with a wide angle, small aperture, low ISO with the camera on the ground under the flowers pointed to the sun. You obviously can't see your composition until after, but that's just part of the fun...the surprise image!
